Why Reset a Leader?
You Moved or Rearranged Your Setup
If you’ve changed your room layout, moved furniture, or relocated lamps to new outlets, your old Leader-Follower connections might not make sense anymore. Resetting your Leader lets you start fresh and create a setup that fits your new layout.
You Want to Move the Leader to a Different Switched Outlet
Your Leader’s behavior depends on the outlet it’s connected to. If you move it to a different switched outlet, it’s best to reset so it can re-establish communication with your Followers from the new location.
You Want to Reconnect Followers to a New Leader
If you’re combining multiple Outlet Pal systems or assigning Followers to a different Leader, you’ll need to reset the old Leader first. This clears its wireless network and prevents overlapping signals between systems.
Your Followers Keep Losing Connection/Flickering
If one or more Followers stop responding, flicker, or fail to follow the Leader’s power state, a quick reset can fix it. Resetting forces the Leader to rescan for a stable wireless channel and rebuild a clean connection.
What Happens When You Reset the Leader
When you reset your Leader, it forgets all its previous Followers. This allows it to form a brand-new wireless network. Any Followers that were connected will turn off automatically until they’re paired again.
How to Reset the Leader
-
Locate your Leader device. It’s the Outlet Pal plugged into the outlet controlled by your wall switch. The LED on the front should be steady when the switch is on.
-
Hold the button until the light turns off. Press and hold the button on your Leader for about three seconds. The LED will briefly turn off as it clears all pairings.
-
Release the button. Once the light turns off, release the button. The Leader will restart, and the LED will turn solid again when it’s ready.
-
Re-pair your Followers. Double-click each Follower to enter pairing mode (blinking light). Then double-click the Leader to link them. Once connected, the Follower’s LED will pulse gently.
That’s it — your system is now reset and ready for a clean start.
Troubleshooting Tip
If the LED on your Leader stays off after a reset, check that your wall switch is in the ON position. The Leader only receives power when that outlet is active.
